Cara is known for her messages on mental health, kindness and self-love in her songs. The music of Cara is directly from her struggle with mental illness, insomnia and other health issues. According to Reuters' interview, she's described her album as half-tumultuous and half-perfected. She describes her growth through therapy and she encourages other people to get help when they need it. Alessia Cara has been a Canadian artist since the year 1996. Her parents come from Italian heritage. Alessia Cara's parents gave her an instrument at the age of 10. It was the beginning of her journey musically. At the age of 13she began covering songs she adored on YouTube to prove to her fans that she was talented and had the courage to pursue a career as a musician. A cover of one of her songs, Sweater Weather, was the one that got her attention. EP Entertainment gave her an opportunity to develop and compose her own music.
